Say what you will, but I have been a fan of Jennifer Knapp for as long as I can remember. This song has always been a favorite of mine. But it wasn’t until tonight, after an evening of yoga and blogging, that the words of this song became real to me.
The voices and messages that J. Knapp describes are so similar to my experiences with anxiety and the effect that it has on my life. My hope is that, in the months to come, I will loosen my grip on the the places of darkness…
“There’s a place in the darkness that I used to cling to
It presses harsh hope against time
In the absence of martyrs there’s a presence of thieves
Who only want to rob you blind
They steal away any sense of peace
Though I’m a king I’m a king on my knees
And I know they are wrong when they say I am strong
As the darkness covers me”
